AirTel 4G Hotspot Review – Worth Buying?

So, if you’ve been living under a rock, you wouldn’t have heard about the new AirTel 4G internet plans. But hey, you know about it. That’s good. Read on about the AirTel 4G hotspot review.

Airtel 4G Hotspot is a device that allows you to access the internet on your mobile phone or other devices using the Airtel 4G network. It is a small and portable device that can be easily carried around with you. The hotspot has a battery life of up to 6 hours and can connect up to 10 devices at a time.

Airtel 4G Hotspot is a portable Wi-Fi device that allows users to connect up to 10 devices to the internet. It is small and lightweight, making it easy to carry around. The Airtel 4G Hotspot also has a long battery life, making it ideal for use when traveling. However, the Airtel 4G Hotspot is not as fast as some other 4G devices on the market and can be expensive to buy outright.

I came to know about the AirTel 4G hotspot via ads. But I’ve used MiFi hotspots earlier on my trips to the US. Back in 2011, when I was in Florida, I tried the Datajack hotspot and it was awesome! I could travel wherever I want and have the internet follow me (sort of). US had 4G internet right then and now it’s good to know that India is catching up.

And AirTel is one of the first service providers in India to come out with it. In this article, we’ll review the AirTel 4G Internet hotspot device and take a call on it.

What is 4G Hotspot?

AirTel 4G Hotspot Review

So, what is the AirTel 4G hotspot device? I know it’s the internet and everything but hey, how does it differ from my landline broadband internet? Sure, let’s find out.

So, basically, a 4G hotspot device is like your mobile phone. Imagine, your lan phone as your regular broadband internet connection. It is available only at your home because there is a wire attached to it, right? Well, now imagine being able to carry that internet wherever you go. That’s a mobile hotspot.

Benefits of a mobile 4G Hotspot Connection

– Take your internet connection wherever you want to go.
High-speed internet connection consistency.
– No wires, no mess.
– Connectivity in even rural areas.
– Great for mobile working or working remotely.

So, having said that, what is the AirTel 4G hotspot all about and how is it different?

Well, according to AirTel, it can connect up to 10 people on the same hotspot device and can get you up to speeds of 50Mbps. It can also connect between different 4G and non-4G (2G, 3G) devices. It also claims a stand-by time (the time it will work without recharging) of 6 hours.

What that means is you can turn on the device wherever you want, provided there is AirTel connectivity available there and can have your laptop and other mobile devices hook up to the same internet connection, wherever you are. Sweet!

What’s the speed for AirTel 4G Hotspot like?

Now, that’s the most important question everyone is asking. What is the speed that you can get?

Well, the short answer is that it depends. The Mobile hotspot device is actually running on an AirTel 4G mobile connection. (There is a SIM inside). So, your internet speed depends on where you are. For example, if you are in cities where AirTel’s connection is really fast, then you can get up to 15 – 20 Mbps download speeds. Which is pretty good for a mobile device. You can watch YouTube videos, download files over the internet and safely browse websites at a decent speed.

Should I buy an AirTel 4G hotspot instead of a broadband connection?

Depends on your usage. For example, ask yourself what kind of internet usage you have.

Do you travel often? Do you watch a lot of movies while on the move? What is your primary internet usage? Is it for official usage or otherwise?

So, based on all of this, you should be able to make a decision. Because, in my opinion, a 4G hotspot device is not a replacement for your “main” internet.

It sure is handy, mobile and easy to use, etc. But it is not reliable. Your home internet is rock solid and will be available for you all the time, provided you have power.

But your mobile hotspot is meant for travel and accessing the internet while you are on the move. Its internet speed will depend upon where you are and what your connection speed is like.

It can get heated up over a period of time as well. But, if you are a heavy internet user, or travel a lot, and what to have internet connectivity wherever you go, then the 4G hotspot from AirTel is a must-have.

What’s the price for AirTel 4G hotspot?

It’s cheap and a good investment in my opinion. The current price is about Rs. 2,500. You can buy it online via Amazon at a cheaper rate though.

    Dear All
Please don’t buy airtel 4g hotspot it’s really slow same like mobile device what is different between mobile and 4g hotspot. I had purchased so that I can get good Internet speed but the same condition as a mobile device.
so do not buy this product it is waste of money.

  4. dr rajiv reddy

hey…thanks for the info……but i wanted to know if there is any wireless device which could provide us high speed unlimited internet……more like the Rock solid broadband of ours…..standard @home router??

  5. Soumya

Yea..As soon as I enter the wifi password into my phone, it shows “saved, secured” at first, but then “authentication problem” immediately. The hotspot device has a new airtel sim inside. Mine is docomo. Is that what you meant?

If you are getting any thoughts, please let know. I’ll resort to customer care as you said if nothing comes up. Thanks again for your time.

  6. Mani Karthik

That’s weird. What exactly is the authentication problem on your mobile? Is it because you are using a different number? Also, when you say connect to your mobile, you are connecting via the WiFi right?

If it is getting too complicated, I’d suggest calling their customer care.

  7. Soumya

Thanks for the info. Understood well how it works. But, I just purchased and messed it up.

    1. Turned the device on
    2. Connected my laptop to it and used it for a couple days. All was well.
    3. Then I try to connect my mobile to it and it shows authentication problem in my phone
    4. I change a few settings in laptop and phone and now can’t access the hotspot in both :/

NB : I am able to use the net in laptop when I connect it directly to the device with a cord

If u can suggest any measures, it would be great. Thanks again!

I don’t think it is unlocked, you have to use AirTel SIM itself. The LED light will turn fully green when charged.

1’can we insert any sim of other service providers on this airtel hot spot ? is it unlocked dongle ?

    2. how to check indicatorin battery that it is fully charged ?
