Ever since I played with the Surface Pro 4, I’ve changed my opinion on Microsoft. I think the Surface Pro is probably the first gadget of my generation, that Microsoft got right. And I think this one device could change everything about Microsoft as a technology company.
I love the Surface Pro 4. It’s probably the only gadget I felt comfortable spending the money on, without feeling ripped off. With the kind of work I do, I want something mobile, but equally powerful as a laptop and reliable. I’m not completely sure about the reliability part of things, because of Windows, but Microsoft has gotten the rest two things right. Power and mobility. I tried the Surface Pro 4 for some time, and it felt like a gadget that I would use daily, and is a solid replacement for my clunky laptop.
But I didn’t buy it yet. Why? ‘Cos I’m looking forward to Microsoft’s October event for an upgrade. What if the Surface Pro 5 got released in October 2016?
Well, looks like it is coming true. If rumors from these websites (source 1, source 2) are to be believed, Microsoft is planning a big event in October and looks like Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be released. Now, that’s a news I’d like to hear. Let’s look at what the Surface Pro 5 is all about.
What to expect in Microsoft Surface Pro 5?
The Surface Pro 4 had power packed features. With its three processor variants (Core M3, Core i5 and Core i7) and a good sized display, it was perfect! I’m not of the opinion that the entry level Surface Pro is for everyone. It’s probably meant for students with a Core M3 CPU, 128GB of solid state storage and 4GB of RAM, plus a touchscreen stylus. But the middle an high end variant were both great devices with Core i5 and i7 processors respectively.
According to ZDNet, Microsoft’s 2016 event is code named “Project Rio,” and will unveil the Surface pro 5 with the latest generation of Intel’s Kaby Lake processor coupled with a mammoth RAM that is expected to reach up to 32GB.
News Everyday has published a report that the Surface Pro 5’s Core will also start at Rs. 60,000, price an Intel Core i7 model at Rs. 70,000, and offer an i7 Extreme version for Rs. 1,00,000 plus. I am excited to know more about the i7 extreme version.
How much does the Surface pro 5 cost?
Now, this is the big questions everyone is asking. Of course, Surface Pro 4 was expensive. No doubt. If you’re used to laptops then it’ll take some getting used to to the idea of a tablet. But once you are used to it, the price becomes reasonable. But rumors are that the Pro 5 will start from Rs. 60,000 on the basic version and go up to Rs. 1,10,000 for the high end version.
So, the wait is on. I’m impatiently waiting for the reveal of Surface Pro 5 this October. Let’s see what’s going to happen.
