State Bank of India offers online & mobile banking to almost all of it’s customers who have opted for a bank account. I have two accounts with SBI, one NRE and one regular savings bank account and both of the have online banking. SBI’s online banking is not amazing but okay and you might run into a few problems once a while – at least from my experience. Let’s look deeper into how SBI’s online banking works and what you need to know.

State Bank of India Mobile Banking – What it does

SBI promises that their mobile banking features are robust as any other bank out there. You can transfer money, check balances and pay bills online via SBI Mobile banking.

What mobile phones and platform are supported by SBI Mobile Banking : Java, Blackberry, Android, i-phones and Windows phones support mobile banking by SBI. SBI uses WAP and GPRS technology for it’s mobile banking.

The following services can be availed through the Mobile Banking application and WAP:

  • Funds transfer (within and outside the bank)
  • Immediate Payment Services (IMPS)
  • Enquiry services (Balance enquiry/ Mini statement)
  • Demat Account Services
  • Requests (Cheque book request/Generate OTP)
  • Bill Pay (Utility bills, credit cards, Insurance premium), Donations, Subscriptions
  • Top up / Recharge (Mobile /DTH /MobiCash wallet Top up)
  • M Commerce (Merchant payments, SBI life insurance premium)

Who are eligible for SBI Mobile Banking?

All Current/ Savings Bank Account holders with SBI in it’s P segment and proprietary concerns in SME segment are eligible for SBI Mobile Banking.

Limitations with SBI Mobile Banking

Transaction limit per day is Rs. 50,000/- with a calendar month  limit of Rs. 2,50,000/-
There are no service charges for mobile banking transactions but the mobile data charges might apply based on your carrier/network.

How to check balance with SBI Mobile Banking?

Send a text to 9223440000 with the following format.

<Sbal><UserId><Mpin>

Where <UserID> is your user id and <Mpin> is your mobile banking password.

For example, if my UserId is Karthik and my mobile banking pin was 12345, here is what the SMS will look like.

<Sbal>Karthik12345

Who can use SBI Mobile Banking for above services?

All Current/ Savings Bank Account holders in P segment are eligible.
Transaction limit per day is Rs. 1,000/- with a calendar month limit of Rs. 5,000/- . However, customers desiring to transact up to Rs. 5000/- per day or Rs 25,000/- per month may do so after obtaining a One Time Password (OTP).
As a precaution, Customers are requested to delete all the messages sent to the number 9223440000, once the response for their request has been received.

  1. I have registered with SBI secure OTP. I paid my BSNL cellone bill by SBI anywhere mobile app. The 2nd verification did not occur. Payment was confirmed by BSNL immediately. Is this safe?

  2. Using the codes above should get the job done. If it’s not happening, it might be a technical glitch. You should contact the bank or the customer support.

  3. dear sir. i have 2 accounts of sbi in different places. both i got registered by mobiles with different numbers. igot mmid,mpin, user id etc. but i do not understand to type sms to transfer money. one ac to other in the given format. assuming A to B transfer can u pl explaim the seqence. tq

  4. Can you name some service providers, I mean in which format we have to put them in message for mobile top-ups.
    Ex: Stopup>
    In the service provider portion what ever the service provider name I have typed, it shows an an error (Invalid Service Provider) even I have entered the correct one.
