Originally, skydiving was done by soldiers making their way to the battlefield. Today, skydiving is one of the most exciting adventure sports and has been opened to the general public. It is an extreme sport and there is an element of risk to it. But it is the risk factor that gets the adrenaline flowing.

Skydiving in India is done under controlled conditions and nothing is left to chance.  There are three types of jumps that skydivers perform – Tandem, Static Line Jump and Accelerated Free Fall. So which are the best places to do skydiving in India? Let’s find out!

#1: Mehsana, Gujarat

Mehsana, Gujarat has vast open fields that make it an ideal location to go skydiving. Skyriders is a top organizer of skydiving camps in India, and they are the only skydiving company that operates in Mehsana.

The most popular jump in Mehsana is the Tandem experience. Skydivers are trained for an hour before going up in the air. The Tandem jump is a highly controlled one and consists of a fall at the speed of 220 kmh. Performing a Tandem jump costs Rs. 35,000.

Mysore is the second biggest city in Karnataka and hosts several skydiving camps. Most of the skydiving camps in Mysore are located at the base of the Chamundi Hills. Mysore is one of the best places to skydive in India. You can participate in all sorts of jumps here – tandem jumps, accelerated freefall jumps and static line jumps.

#3 Dhana, Madhya Pradesh

Dhana, Madhya Pradesh has the distinction of organising the first every skydiving camp in India. It is a beautiful little town, not far from Bhopal. You can opt for a variety of jumps in Dhana, ranging from tandem jump to static line jump, from a height of 4000 feet above the ground.

#4: Aamby Valley, Maharashtra

Aamby Valley is one of the most beautiful places in India, with spectacular landscapes and stunning scenic beauty. Aamby Valley has been popular with skydiving enthusiasts for a while now.

Only tandem jumps from a height of 10,000 feet are allowed here. #5: Deesa, Gujarat

Deesa is a lovely little lakeside city in Gujarat, and is considered to be one of the best skydiving destinations in the country. There is a plenty in Deesa for every type of skydiving enthusiast – it doesn’t matter if you have never skydived before, or even if you are a hard-core expert – you will find something up your alley in Deesa.

There are many skydiving camps organized in Deesa every summer by the Sports Authority of Gujarat and the Indian Parachuting Federation. A static jump would cost you Rs. 16,500, a tandem jump would cost Rs. 33,500 and AFF would set you back by Rs. 37,500. Deesa can be reached by bus or train from Ahmedabad. A drive from Ahmedabad to Deesa takes a little more than two hours, at best.

#6: Pondicherry
