Oppo Find X Review: Enticing the Masses with Hidden Cameras

Oppo’s flagship smartphone, Oppo Find X, was unveiled globally at an event in Paris in June 2018. The bezel-less beautiful smartphone was launched in India on July 12, 2018, at an event in New Delhi.

I have been frustrated for some time by the fact that the market currently lacks innovations in smartphones. Most of the brands are taking inspiration from each other and launching their devices as a revolutionary product, without actually adding something revolutionary. I was, therefore, quite excited when I got my hands on the Oppo Find X, which, I must say, is one of the most innovative smartphones I have seen of late.

Much before its launch, the smartphone created a buzz due to its retractable camera. The motorized camera slider slides in and out of the smartphone frame to reveal the front and back cameras.

Oppo Find X is up for pre-orders through Flipkart, with the sale of this highly awaited device starting from August 4. Find X will be available in two colour options, Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue.

Unfortunately, Oppo Find X comes with a hefty price tag of Rs.59,990, which immediately takes this phone out of the reach of most buyers in India. Seems like Oppo only had the Elite Indian in mind when they were conceptualizing this phone.

So, do the features justify the whopping price? Here’s what I discovered.

Oppo Find X

Specifications

Oppo Find X is priced at Rs.59,990 for the Indian audience. It will be a Flipkart exclusive and can only be purchased through this e-commerce platform. t

Oppo Find X is a dual SIM smartphone that supports both GSM and CDMA nano-SIM cards. The smartphone features a 6.42-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080 X 2340 pixels and weighs 186 gm and measures 156.70 x 74.30 x 9.40 mm.

The device is powered by a 2.5GHz octa-core processor, paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The Oppo Find X runs on Android 8.1 and is fueled by a 3730mAh non-removable battery.

The main attractions, the cameras, include a 25MP front shooter and 16MP primary camera on the rear. The connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G and 4G. Sensors include the accelerometer, gyro, proximity and ambient light sensors.

Oppo Find X Technical Features

Display Size: 6.42-inch touchscreen display

Screen Resolution: 1080 X 2340 pixels

Processor: 2.5GHz Snapdragon octa-core processor

RAM: 8GB

Storage: 256 GB internal storage

Front Camera: 25 MP

Rear Camera: 20MP +16 MP

Oppo Find X Display and Looks

Oppo Find X features a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, which is great. The major highlight of this device is its 93.8% screen-to-body ratio, which makes it truly bezel-less, further beautified with a small chin. The smartphone is designed with an all-glass body with curved edges, which is another plus point. I liked the shiny metallic finish of this device.

To make the appearance of the Oppo Find X seamless, no camera sensors are included on the front or at the back. On opening and closing the camera app, the motorized slider automatically opens and retracts the camera sensors.

3D facial scanning is used as the chief method of unlocking the Find X. When you’ll turn on the smartphone, and swipe on the lock screen, the camera will slide up to scan your face.

Oppo Find X Performance and Battery

Oppo Find X is powered the Snapdragon 845 processor, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory. The phone has the ColorOS, based on Android 8.1 Oreo. I must say the specifications are pretty impressive, given how costly this phone is. According to Oppo, Find X will also support Android P beta.

The Find X comes with a 3730mAh battery with VOOC Fast Charging support, which makes it one of the fastest charging phones today. OPPO VOOC or Voltage Open Loop Multi-step Constant-Current Charging is a proprietary rapid-charge technology created by Oppo Electronics. Oppo has used this technology in most of its devices. This enables the phone to achieve up to 75% charge in just 20-30 minutes.

Even if you are the busiest person on this planet, this battery is sure to keep you going through the day. In fact, if you are a light user, you can even manage to keep the phone charged for 36-48 hours.

Oppo Find X Camera and Apps

Oppo, like Vivo, has made quite a name for itself with the cameras in its smartphones. Oppo Find X features a horizontally stacked 20MP+16MP dual-rear camera configuration. For selfies, it boasts an impressive 25MP front shooter.

Both the front and rear cameras have f/2.0 apertures and are optically stabilized. The Chinese smartphone maker has utilized Artificial Intelligence in the camera. However, this is not a new thing. Smartphones like the Honor 10, Huawei P20 and the LG G7 ThinQ are already using AI in their photos.

Not to forget, the pop-up camera is said to start operating within half a second of the user launching the camera app. Although the awesome pop-out camera is also available in the Vivo NEX, I liked the Oppo device more. For all the cameras (both rear and front), sensor and face recognition tech are placed on an ejectable platform that pops out of the phone, when given the command.

Oppo Find X Price

As I mentioned earlier, Oppo Find X is priced at Rs.59,990 for the Indian audience. It will be a Flipkart exclusive and can only be purchased through this e-commerce platform. However, there are a lot of pre-order benefits on Flipkart. On booking the Oppo Find X, shoppers will receive a gift voucher worth Rs.3,000 from Flipkart. There is also an exchange offer that gives buyers benefits of up to Rs.15,000. If you pre-order the Find X using a Bank Buzz Credit Card, you’ll get an additional 5% off.

Reasons Why I Like This Phone

  1. Motorized camera slider
  2. Impressive specifications
  3. Highly attractive design

Reasons Why I Hate This Phone

  1. Price and only price! 🙁

You have my recommendation to buy this phone, but only if fits into your budget.
