PAN (Permanent Account Number) is an identity card issued to the residents by the income tax department in India. It bears a unique identification number which is a combination of alphabets and numbers.It is a national and permanent card and there is no need to change it ,if you transfer to another state in India.

PAN is mandatory for almost all financial transactions like getting a loan,opening a fixed deposit etc. The banks will ask your PAN card for proof if you deposit high valued cheques.Without a PAN card, you cannot file income tax returns. It is also needed during immigration when you travel out of the country. Now you can easily obtain a PAN card by submitting an online application.

1. Pan Card Application through UTIITSL

Go to the website of UTIITSL and click the option PAN card-> Apply under the Services Tab. Alternatively you can also click the link Apply PAN online on the home page.It will take you to the page where the blank Form 49A (Application for allotment of Permanent Account Number) is displayed.

1.Fill all the information like name, gender,date of birth,address for communication etc.
2. Select the documents that you are going to provide for Identity Proof and address proof from the drop down menu. Make sure that you have the copy and original of the documents you have chosen.
3. After finishing the above steps, click the ‘Validate’ button. It will show you the filled application form to your for confirmation. If everything is correct, click ‘Submit’ button.
4.Now you have to pay the application fee which is Rs.96. For this,click the ‘Make payment’ button and choose any one of the two payment gateway options Billdesk and PayUIndia. You can pay the money by using credit card / debit card / internet banking or any other payment options available.
5. If the payment is a success, it will be endorsed on the form and you should save it or take a print out of that using the ‘Print Form’ option.
6. Take the hard copy of the form and affix two photographs of size 3.5 x 2.5 cms on the space provided and put your signature across the photograph.
7. Put your signatures wherever needed in the boxes provided.
8. Now the application form is completely filled and the next step is to attach the copy of the documents for identity and address proof mentioned while filing form.

You will get a 9 digit acknowledgment number on acceptance of the form and you can track the status of your PAN card using the link Track your PAN card.

2. Applying for PAN Card through NSDL

Go to the NSDL website and click the button ‘New PAN card for Indian citizens’ and select ‘Individual’ in the page that is taken through.

1. Fill the application form with the details similar to the one mentioned above.
2. In the payment option, you can pay using cheque or demand draft instead of internet banking.In that case, the cheque or demand draft should be drawn in favor of ‘NSDL – PAN’.Mention that information also in the application form where it is asked.
3. After finishing the above steps click the ‘Submit’ button.
4. A 15-digit acknowledgement number is displayed on the screen on successful confirmation which can be used for tracking the status.
5. Take the hard copy of the form and affix two photographs of size 3.5 x 2.5 cms on the space provided and put your signature across the photograph.
7. Put your signatures wherever needed in the boxes provided.
8. Now the application form is completely filled and the next step is to attach the copy of the documents for identity and address proof mentioned while filing form

Finally send the application form + documents ( cheque or demand draft if applicable) set to
