Being an NRI, I know the pain. There’s an amazing TV show going in India that everyone is talking about but you can’t watch them because they aren’t available in your country. And you search the internet in a frenzy only to go to cheap, ad laden click bait websites that promise you everything but give you nothing. Well, here’s a neat way out.
Let’s say you want to watch a show like Bigg Boss that airs on Colors TV in India. How do you watch it from USA? Here’s how.
How to watch Indian TV shows in USA?
First way out – Obviously, you have to subscribe to those channels on your TV. Here is a list of Indian TV channels available for NRIs in USA. Some of them are not available everywhere and can be expensive, especially if you want to watch just one show. Most of these subscriptions come in bundles and you cannot choose just one TV channel, like Colors TV. You end up paying for a bundle including other channels for a monthly subscription of say $19! Probably not very effective.
Second way out – Use a VPN. VPNs let you browse the internet as if from another country. So if you are in USA, you start using a VPN and choose which country you want to search as. So you search the web as from India and you get to see all Indian content.
There are two popular VPNs. One is a simple chrome extension called Hola. You can get it here. Here are instructions on how to use it. Using it, surf the web as from India and go to this website.
This is Color TV channels official website where you can watch their shows but only from India.
Since you are browsing the web just like from India (using the VPN) you will be able to see the shows. (Big Boss etc)
If Hola doesn’t work for you, you can try another VPN like Witopia (I’ve used this and it’s amazing!)
Summary
So, there you have it. Watching Indian TV shows from outside India is difficult, when there are geo restrictions. But with technology, it is possible to some extent to work around them.
All the best!
