So, you’re about to go on a travel and is wondering whether to buy travel insurance or not. Worst case, you already bought your tickets but not an insurance. So, can you get travel insurance after booking a flight?

The short answer is yes. You can buy travel insurance even after booking your ticket. In fact, in some cases, it is even better to buy travel insurance after booking your flight ticket because, now the insurance agency knows where and when you are going and how long your trip is.

Is it better to buy travel insurance before buying flight tickets or after it?

Now, that’s a question I get asked a lot.

The truth is, it depends on you and the trip. Travel insurance can be bought anytime before your flight. But, provided you are sure about your travel dates, you can buy it anytime. What’s important is to know your travel dates and destination.

Most times, travel dates can fluctuate and you’d know the real dates only when you’re closer to the actual date of travel. So, it makes sense to buy insurance then, so that you don’t over buy it. But when you are certain about your travel dates, it is also recommended that you buy it early enough.

Why buy early?

Most travel insurance plans don’t kick in immediately. They have an activation time that differs for each company. So, to avoid confusion, it is recommended that you buy your insurance plan early on, so you are covered for the actual dates of travel.

Hope that answered your question.
